The Cassara Carlsbad Hotel Review
Sprawled across 12 lush acres, The Cassara Carlsbad is a beautiful resort. It features Mediterranean-inspired architecture, lush gardens, two sparkling pools, fire pits, a Jacuzzi, a 24-hour fitness center and sauna, kids’ activities, and views of the Southern California coastline.
But what really sets this resort apart – especially if you are visiting between March and May like we did – is the location! The Cassara is perched high overlooking the Carlsbad Flower Fields and the Pacific Ocean in the distance. If views are your thing (and trust me, I love a beautiful view!) this hotel is really something special.

We arrived at The Cassara Carlsbad on a Friday evening and were greeted by friendly staff at the elegant front desk. Once, in our room, the first thing I did was step out onto the balcony. The sun was setting in the west, and we had a beautiful view of the sunset dipping into the horizon beyond The Flower Fields below. It was the perfect way to start our weekend!
The hotel itself is part of an older property, relaunched several years ago as The Cassara. It still shares many amenities, including its lobby, pools, and outdoor areas with the Grand Pacific Palisades Resort, which is more like condos, where The Cassara is a luxury hotel. However, the experience staying there is quite seamless; just make sure you follow the signs to The Cassara when you enter as they have separate check-in desks. It’s the one on the left when you enter through the main doors.

One thing to note, the hotel does not offer valet parking, so you will have to self-park in the garage below. I recommend finding a spot by the elevator if at all possible, otherwise you will have a long walk to the front desk. Also, grab a luggage cart and bring it back to your car to unload if you have a lot of stuff to bring inside. (There should be some by the elevators.) We had a big cooler in addition to our bags, so this was really helpful.
Guest Rooms

Designed in modern elegant Mediterranean décor and architecture, rooms at The Cassara come with either one king or two queen beds with down comforters and pillows, ample lighting and power ports, a large 42-inch flat screen TV, big sitting chair, iron and ironing board, beverage station with Keurig® coffeemaker and pods, work desk with an ergonomic chair, mini refrigerator, free Wi-Fi, granite vanity counter top, premium bathroom amenities and a hair dryer.
There are also suites available, which is great if you have a big family.

We stayed in a traditional room with a king bed. It was a good size and had plenty of closet space and room to spread out. The décor was nice. I loved the wallpaper and furnishings, however I questioned the plaid curtains and their 70s vibe.
But the best apart about rooms at The Cassara are the aforementioned balconies. Since we stayed in a room overlooking The Flower Fields and they were in bloom, it was fun watching the tours go by on colorful rolling tractors.

The entire hotel is situated above the American Flag of Flowers, a striking 300 by 170-foot tribute to the USA created entirely out of petunias.
Rooms overlooking The Flower Fields might cost a little bit more per night, but totally worth it in my opinion. Otherwise, you will likely end up with a view of the parking lot.
Amenities & Recreation

One of the things that make this resort an amazing place to stay is their array of family-friendly activities.
For starters, there are two very different pool areas. The first – and the one closest to The Cassara’s main lobby – is the Quiet Pool.

This pool is huge and is for serious swimmers only; although kids are welcome, there’s no splashing around. The area also has plenty of seating and cabanas available for free on a first come first serve basis.
The more lively family pool is located on the Grand Pacific Palisades Resort side of the property. There is a splash pad for kids, plus table games, a playground, arcade, and activity center in the area.

If you are planning a visit to Legoland during your stay, there is a private pedestrian entrance to the park so you don’t have to worry about driving or paying for parking.
Dining at The Cassara

The Cassara Kitchen & Bar is the resort’s only restaurant. It is located off the lobby and serves breakfast and dinner, plus late-night cocktails and dessert. It is a beautiful space with high, vaulted ceilings and beautiful Mediterranean tiles.
On the night of our arrival, we enjoyed drinks at the bar. We tried the Flower Power Sour, a unique and limited-time, hand-crafted cocktail The Cassara offers during the months when the fields are in bloom.

The next night, we had dinner at The Cassara Kitchen & Bar. The food was good, but the menu is not exceptionally lengthy, so options are limited. We shared some delicious tacos and a salad. We did not have breakfast at the restaurant, but the food looked wonderful when we walked by the next morning.
Although not technically a part of the resort, there is a Karl Strauss Brewery located right next door.
Also very nearby is the Windmill Food Hall, a cool venue featuring unique counter-serve food options (everything from sushi to pizza and pasta to Thai food), a full bar, and a patio. We had lunch here one day and simply shared a burger since we weren’t super hungry. The great thing about this place is that no matter what you are in the mood for, everyone can get something different and you can all eat together.

The Cassara is also very close to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets, home to many great places to eat, including lots of fast food options.
Final Thoughts: The Cassara Carlsbad

With its scenic location, great amenities, and big, comfortable rooms, The Cassara is an ideal beachside escape for families. And if you are visiting San Diego in spring, you’ll enjoy the hotel’s premier location overlooking The Flower Fields and beautiful views all around.
