Today, Old Town is one of San Diego’s most popular and significant attractions. Old Town San Diego is a lively and expansive park, with 50 shops and restaurants and 36 museums and historic sites – many of which are free to explore.
Staying at the Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town San Diego will put you in the center of the action, and make getting around to other San Diego attractions super easy!
Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town San Diego Review
One of the reasons we love this hotel is because it’s not your typical space. It is whimsical and charming, with courtyards, fountains, palm trees, and a maze of stairs and terraces that connect the hotel’s eight buildings of guest rooms.
Although it is located adjacent to Old Town, the atmosphere is quiet and serene. The hotel is family friendly and features comfortable decor inspired by old Spanish Missions.
From the moment you arrive, the lobby sets the tone for your stay. It features an exposed wood beam ceiling, a large stone fireplace, dark leather furniture and an old map of Baja California. The cozy smell of complimentary fresh brewed coffee fills the air.
Although Best Western is typically known as a budget hotel brand, we found the grounds and ambiance here more like a cozy boutique retreat.
The Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town offers comfortable, well-appointed guest rooms and suites. Rooms are spacious and decorated with handcrafted furnishings; many have private balconies. Each room features a microwave, refrigerator and high-speed Internet access, making this an ideal space for families!
There is also a fitness center, outdoor heated pool and hot tub, guest laundry and a complimentary shuttle to the San Diego International Airport and cruise ship terminals.
One thing to note that we did not love about this hotel – unlike most Best Westerns, this hotel does not offer a complimentary breakfast.
Old Town San Diego Location

The Old Town Trolley Tour loops 25 miles and stops at 10 locations across San Diego. You can easily explore attractions, museums, beaches, historic sites, shops, and restaurants.
Of course, you will also want to visit San Diego’s other attractions as well. The San Diego Old Town Transportation Center is just a five-minute walk from the hotel, providing direct access via bus and trolley to the Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village San Diego, and the convention center.
The Hacienda Hotel is also a 10-minute drive to SeaWorld San Diego and the beach.
Dining at the Hacienda Hotel Old Town San Diego
Although you will want to try some of the many awesome restaurants in Old Town, the hotel has a great option right on site.
The Tequila Factory Restaurant and Cantina serves authentic Mexican food with fantastic views of Old Town. They feature fresh tortillas and a variety of healthy and delicious authentic dishes, including Blackened Mahi Mahi and Shrimp Caesar Salad, Fajitas Más Famosas de la Tequila Factory, Roasted Carnitas and Puerto Nuevo Style Lobster.
The Tequila Factory also offers a fantastic breakfast (a plus since the Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town San Diego does not offer complimentary breakfast) and really nice cocktails, including margaritas, craft beers, and of course tequila. Enjoy one on the patio, the perfect way to end your day in San Diego!
