You’re in for an amazing time! March is one of the most exciting months of the year to visit America’s Finest City because there is so much going on.
While much of the country is still transitioning out of winter, San Diego is already buzzing with spring vibes — blooming flowers, springtime festivals, sunny skies, and plenty of family-friendly fun. Warmer temperatures and longer days make it an ideal time for outdoor adventures before the summer crowds arrive.

March brings mild, pleasant weather, perfect for enjoying outdoor events and attractions without the intense heat of summer.
You can expect:
- Daytime highs: around 70–73°F
- Evenings: cool and comfortable — usually in the 50s–60s°F
- Rain: occasional light showers — not much, but a light jacket is recommended just in case
- Sunshine: more daylight and plenty of clear skies for exploring
Ocean temperatures are still chilly in March, so while the beaches are perfect for picnics and tide pooling, they’re usually not warm enough for most swimmers.

1. Go Whale Watching
March is still prime whale-watching season in San Diego as gray whales continue their migration between Baja and Alaska.
There are a number of whale watching tours in San Diego you can hop aboard. Boat tours depart from Mission Bay, San Diego Bay, and La Jolla and typically last two and a half to three hours. 2. Visit The Flower Fields at Carlsbad
One of Southern California’s most iconic seasonal attractions opens in March. The Flower Fields in Carlsbad burst into an ocean of vibrant color with nearly 50 acres of ranunculus flowers
Wander through fragrant fields, take photos, hop on tractor wagon rides, and enjoy family-friendly activities against a stunning coastal backdrop.
For the 2026 season, the Flower Fields will be open every day between March 1 and May 10.

3. SeaWorld’s Seven Seas Food & Drink Festival
Kicking off at the end of February and going through April 26, the Seven Seas Food Festival at SeaWorld San Diego is an awesome event to catch if you are visiting San Diego in March.
With more than 150 special food and drink offerings, live entertainment, the Seven Seas Food Festival pairs perfectly with a fun day at the theme park including all the regular rides, shows, and marine animal exhibits.
This year’s festival is bigger than ever with a completely new menu that highlight the lively flavors of Latin America, the Caribbean, France, and Tuscany, alongside familiar favorites like Asian, Polynesian, and Mediterranean dishes.
While of course you’ll have to pay for any food you want to try, all the concerts and live entertainment (there are six different stages!) are included with your park admission.
4. Experience LEGOLAND California’s Galaxy Land
On March 6, Galaxy Land – LEGOLAND California’s newest themed area – will make its debut, bringing out-of-this-world fun to kids and adults alike.
With a brand-new roller coaster, junior astronaut play zones, and interactive space-themed attractions, this expansion adds a major reason to visit LEGOLAND in March.
5. San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering
Calling all science lovers and curious minds! The San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering Expo Day will take place on March 7 at Petco Park, The Expo offers hands-on exhibits, engaging demonstrations, and STEM activities perfect for kids and teens.

6. Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Friendship Garden
One of San Diego’s most beautiful spring celebrations will take place at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park from March 12-15, 2026.
The Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates spring with cherry blossoms, cultural performances, food vendors, and hands-on activities for kids. You can stroll beneath vibrant pink blossoms, enjoy the free entertainment and family-friendly activities, and take lots of beautiful pictures of all the trees in bloom. This is a great cultural experience at a truly beautiful venue.
7. St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Irish Festivities
Also taking place in Balboa Park the same weekend as the Cherry Blossom Festival, you can catch the St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival on Saturday, March 14.
The 44th Annual San Diego St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival features a vibrant parade filled with floats, dancers, bands, and dignitaries, followed by a family-friendly festival in Balboa Park with Irish food, live music, cultural exhibits, and kids’ activities.
The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Fifth Ave and Laurel Street in downtown San Diego. The Gaslamp Quarter also hosts block parties, live music, and green beer celebrations at various pubs — all part of the city’s spirited St. Patrick’s Day scene.
8. Catch a San Diego Padres Game
Spring marks the start of baseball season, and catching a San Diego Padres game is a must if your family is into baseball!
There are plenty of home games throughout the month of March. Petco Park is located right downtown near the Gaslamp Quarter and waterfront, and the stadium’s family-friendly atmosphere makes it a great way to spend a few hours for fans of all ages.
Kids will love the Park at the Park, an open grassy area with a playground and plenty of space to run around.

10. Spring Busker Festival at Seaport Village
Emerging spring energy is on full display at the Spring Busker Festival in Seaport Village San Diego, featuring talented street performers, live music, jugglers, magicians, and more.
It’s a free, lively way to enjoy San Diego’s waterfront and soak up sunny spring atmospheres.
Also taking place at Seaport Village on March 28 is the Beach Bunny Festival. Hop on over to the Fountain Courtyard for photos with the Beach Bunny. You can also enjoy festivities and live music from 1 to 4 p.m.
11. San Diego Crew Classic Regatta
For a unique sporting spectacle, head to Mission Bay for the San Diego Crew Classic — a premier rowing event featuring collegiate and masters crews racing across the calm waters of Mission Bay.
This year, the San Diego Crew Classic Regatta will take place March 27-29, 2026.
You can join other spectators and watch from the shore! Bring your own chairs, food, and picnic blankets for a festive daytime outing. There will also be a beer garden and food vendors.
