Each year, throughout the entire month of October, dozens of San Diego hotels, restaurants, attractions, and more offer families the chance to explore San Diego while saving big! Offers range from complimentary admission for kids at local attractions to free meals at restaurants to special deals and perks at area hotels.

For Kids Free San Diego 2026, there will be over 100 family-friendly deals in October.

And the savings can be substantial! Throughout the month, kids can visit major attractions including the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, SeaWorld San Diego, LEGOLAND California and dozens of museums for free with a paid adult admission.

We’ve lived in Southern California for more than 20 years and October is one of my favorite times to explore San Diego. The summer crowds have eased, the weather is typically still beautiful, and Kids Free San Diego makes an already great time to visit much more affordable.

The San Diego Tourism Authority and the San Diego Museum Council just released all the official offers for Kids Free October in San Diego, and I’ve gone through them to highlight the ones I think are most worthwhile for families. This updated article will make sure you have the most current and complete information to start planning your visit to San Diego during Kids Free October, plus some helpful tips.

Kids Free October San Diego – Theme Parks & Major Attractions

Home to world-class attractions like the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, SeaWorld San Diego, and LEGOLAND California Resort, San Diego is offering families free admission for kids at many attractions. I think these attractions really give you the best bang for your buck when it comes to Kids Free San Diego, since these are typically the highest-cost attractions and will save you the most money.

And the coolest part is – many of these attractions have extended hours and fun activities for Halloween, so you’re getting bonus fun for absolutely no extra cost!

SeaWorld San Diego

Kids receive free admission with every paid adult ticket at SeaWorld San Diego. Families can dive into unforgettable animal encounters or climb, splash, and play at the new Rescue Jr. area.

And for a seasonal twist, Spooktacular brings trick-or-treating and not-so-spooky fun perfect for kids of all ages. Enjoy decorated trails, colorful characters, a Halloween dance party, and more for fully immersive family fun.

SeaWorld has upped its game in recent years with new thrill rides and shows! You can cool off with amazing animal encounters, the snowmobile-style Arctic Rescue family coaster, and spend the day exploring the wonders of the sea. There is also the new Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience, and many other rides and shows, too!

San Diego Zoo & San Diego Zoo Safari Park

The San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park are celebrating fall with a wide range of seasonal activities and entertainment, along with immersive wildlife experiences, and both parks are offering free admission for kids when accompanied by a paying adult.

At the San Diego Zoo, families can encounter the only giant pandas on the West Coast, gorillas, polar bears, elephants, and more. Admission to the zoo includes the Guided Bus Tour and Skyfari aerial tram.

The same offer is also valid at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, a 1,800-acre wildlife sanctuary and home to more than 300 species. Families can hop aboard the Africa Tram and get up close to giraffes, rhinos, and other incredible wildlife roaming expansive habitats.

HalGLOWeen has become an annual “must” for the whole family at the zoo. After the sun sets every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in October, enjoy a multitude of Halloween-themed experiences, including live music and performances, culinary treats, and interactive fun.

LEGOLAND California Resort

One of the best amusement parks in Southern California for families with younger kids, LEGOLAND has more than 60 rides and attractions. This October, LEGOLAND is offering a free child Hopper Ticket when a full-price adult Hopper Ticket is purchased. You can select from the LEGOLAND + Sea Life Aquarium Hopper Ticket or the Resort Hopper Ticket, which includes access to LEGOLAND California, Sea Life Aquarium, and the LEGOLAND Water Park.

And throughout the month of October you can also enjoy Brick-or-Treat on select dates!

If you have little kids, visiting LEGOLAND is one of the best things to do in Carlsbad and actually all of San Diego.

Sesame Place San Diego

For Kids Free October, Sesame Place San Diego is offering free admission for kids 3-9 with each full-price adult ticket. Children under 3 do not need a ticket.

Sesame Place is geared toward families with younger kids, combining fun rides and family-friendly water attractions, including a lazy river and raft ride.

They also have an event happening throughout the month of October, The Count’s Halloween Spooktacular, which features Halloween-themed shows, trick-or-treating, fun decor, and the Sesame Street Halloween Parade. You can come in costume if you like! Kids can also participate in their interactive Spot-The-Ghost Scavenger Hunt.

It is important to note that Sesame Place is only open on weekends in October, so if you are planning to visit you’ll need to go on a Saturday or Sunday.

Old Town Trolley Tour

Explore the city aboard the Old Town Trolley Tour, where all October long kids ride free with each paid adult.

This two-hour, fully narrated bus tour covers approximately 25 miles and lets you hop on and off at any of the including Balboa Park, the Gaslamp Quarter, USS Midway, Old Town, Little Italy, and many more.

I love that you can tour the city at your own pace and visit whichever attractions at each stop that you want to see. This is the tour I always recommend to people visiting San Diego for the first time or if you only have one day to explore.

Birch Aquarium

Families can save on kids admission when diving into the world of sharks, seahorses, and Little Blue Penguins at Birch Aquarium in La Jolla!

As the public outreach center for Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, Birch Aquarium’s hands-on exhibits explore the latest in oceanographic discovery, while introducing guests to a variety of amazing creatures. The aquarium is a good size, but not overwhelmingly huge, so you won’t need more than an hour or two to get through the whole facility.

Don’t miss the interactive tide pools where kids can touch sea stars and hermit crabs! It is one of the most popular spots for kids at the aquarium.

Belmont Park

As one of many free things to do in San Diego with kids, visiting Belmont Park is always free to enter and walk around. But for Kids Free October they are offering a free wristband for kids 12 and under with the purchase of an adult wristband. That means kids will have unlimited access to park rides (including the historic Giant Dipper roller coaster), Lazer Tag, the zipline, and more.

Plus every weekend in September and October, there’s live music and more at Belmont Park’s Beachside Fall Fest. It is a lot of fun to walk around this iconic amusement park when it is decorated for fall and there are bands playing on the stage.

One of my favorite ways to see San Diego is from the water. If you want a relaxing way to see San Diego from the water, a harbor cruise is hard to beat!

Both Flagship Cruises and City Cruises are inviting kids to cruise for free with the purchase of an adult ticket. A San Diego harbor tour offers a completely different perspective of the city and is an especially easy activity to enjoy as a family.

San Diego Museums and Cultural Venues

Kids have endless options to learn while having fun at a plethora of museums offering free admission to all kids in October.

Below are just a few of San Diego’s many kid-friendly museums to discover, including our personal favorites that I recommend adding to your list.

Step aboard one of America’s longest-serving aircraft carriers at the USS Midway Museum, where kids receive free admission with the purchase of an adult ticket. Families can explore more than 60 exhibits, take in 29 restored aircraft on the flight deck, and follow a self-guided audio tour narrated by former Midway sailors.

The Fleet Science Center, one of many great Balboa Park museums participating in Kids Free Dan Diego, is making October extra special for families. Children receive free admission with a paying adult, giving kids the chance to explore more than 100 interactive exhibits, unleash their creativity in the StudioX makerspace, and journey to new worlds in the IMAX® Giant Dome Theater.

At The Natural History Museum (The Nat), families can explore towering dinosaur skeletons, and fascinating fossils. Don’t miss the newest exhibition, “Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea.” From interactive exhibits to live animals, The Nat makes science come alive for people of all ages. We’ve visiting this museum numerous times over the years, and there is always something new to discover!

Blast off into aviation and space history at the San Diego Air & Space Museum in Balboa Park! Families can explore historic aircraft, rare space artifacts, and interactive exhibits that let kids imagine life as a pilot or astronaut. From early flight to the Apollo missions and beyond, the museum inspires curiosity about science, technology, and exploration. During October kids get free admission, making it the perfect family adventure for budding aviators and explorers.

Other Balboa Park attractions offering free admission for kids include the San Diego Automotive Museum, Japanese Friendship Garden, and the Museum of Us, where families can discover a variety of interactive exhibits highlighting human stories that span time and cultures.

Hotels Roll Out the Welcome Mat for Kids

Hotels throughout San Diego, ranging from budget options to luxury escapes, are also offering free meals, special experiences and welcome gifts for kids this October.

Kids eat free at the Waffle Spot through the month of October. When staying at Kings Inn, little ones treated like royalty, enjoying a complimentary breakfast, lunch, or dinner with a paying adult. It’s the perfect way to fuel up before a day of exploring San Diego’s attractions, or to wind down together after an adventure-filled afternoon.

Is LEGOLAND California free for kids in October?

LEGOLAND California participates in Kids Free San Diego with a special October ticket offer. For 2026, families can receive a free child Hopper Ticket with the purchase of a full-price adult Hopper Ticket.

October also coincides with LEGOLAND’s Brick-or-Treat Halloween celebration on select dates, making this an especially fun time for families with younger children to visit.

Can Kids Free October discounts be combined with Go City or CityPASS?

Generally, no. Kids Free October offers cannot be combined with other discounts, including Balboa Park Explorer Passes, Go City San Diego passes or CityPASS.
