Disneyland Single Rider lines are one of the best (and totally free!) ways to save time on your Disney vacation and squeeze more rides into your day.
There are 11 rides at the Disneyland Resort that offer Single Rider lines as an option, including one recently added attraction! You can now skip the line at Indiana Jones Adventure and cut your wait time to down to mere minutes. This makes one of the traditionally longest standby lines at Disneyland now practically skippable!

What Are Disneyland Single Rider Lines?
Single Rider lines are a lesser-known but incredibly useful option at Disneyland Resort that allow guests to significantly reduce their wait time on select attractions. As the name suggests, these lines are designed for individual riders who are willing to be separated from the rest of their group.
Many rides have vehicles with an odd number of seats or occasional empty spots due to group sizes. Instead of sending those seats out empty, Disney uses Single Rider lines to quickly fill them. This helps keep rides operating efficiently while giving guests a chance to experience popular attractions with much shorter waits.
How Single Rider Lines Work
Using a Single Rider line is simple! Here’s the basic rundown and some of the pros and cons of Disneyland Single Rider lines, based on our personal experience.
When you arrive at the attraction, look for the Single Rider entrance. It is usually separate from the standby and Lightning Lane entrances. Just walk on in to join the line.
Cast Members pull guests from the Single Rider line as needed to fill empty seats, almost always resulting in wait times that are much shorter than the regular standby line.
The main trade-off is that your party will be split up, and you won’t have any control over who you sit with or what row you sit in on the ride.
Single Rider lines also bypass most themed queues, so you may miss some storytelling or pre-show elements. Additionally, these lines can open and close throughout the day depending on crowd levels and operational needs, so availability is never guaranteed.
Single Rider lines are ideal for:
- Adults or teens comfortable riding alone
- Parents taking turns riding thrill attractions
- Solo travelers
- Anyone trying to experience popular rides with minimal wait times
Disneyland Single Rider lines are also great to use if only one person in your family or group wants to go on a ride, they can use the Single Rider option while everyone else does something else. For instance, I don’t like to get wet when it’s cold outside but my son doesn’t mind, so if he wants to ride Grizzly River Run at DCA on a chilly day, off ya go!
Here is when I recommend you NOT use Single Rider lines at Disneyland:
- When it’s your first time riding (you will likely miss the story found in the queue)
- When you want to sit together
- When standby lines are short
Top Tip: If you are going on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run inside the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge area of Disneyland, you will not be able to choose your role, something you can do if you wait in the standby line. If sitting in a certain spot is important to you (for instance, if you really want to be the pilot) then I suggest waiting in the regular line.
There is no additional cost to use Single Rider lines, and they do not require Lightning Lane. Availability can vary by day and attraction.

Disneyland Park

For Indiana Jones, be aware that there is no sign for Single Rider. You have to be in the know to utilize the option! Ask the Cast Member at the entrance they will give you a lanyard; you can then enter through the exit instead of waiting in the regular line.
We tested this option when the posted waiting time was 45 minutes and actually made it onto the ride in about 10 minutes!

Tips for Using Single Rider Disneyland Lines
Here are some additional tips and things to keep in mind when using Single Rider lines at Disneyland and DCA.
1. You Can Wait in Line with Your Group, But Be Prepared to Ride Alone
Single Rider lines almost always mean being separated from your group. Go in with the expectation that you’ll board alone or with a stranger so you’re not disappointed.
2. Use Single Rider on Repeat Rides
If you’ve already experienced an attraction together, Single Rider is a great way to ride again with minimal wait. This is especially true on favorites like Space Mountain or Radiator Springs Racers in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure that typically have long standby lines.
3. Use Them for Parent Swaps
Single Rider lines are perfect for families with younger kids. One adult can stay behind while the other rides, then switch without having to wait in the longer standby line.
4. Ask a Cast Member Before Committing
Disneyland Single Rider availability and wait times can change throughout the day based on staffing and crowd levels. Always check with a Cast Member at the attraction entrance before entering the queue.
5. Expect Limited Ride Choice
Some rides may assign Single Riders to specific seats or roles (like Engineer on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run). If having a particular experience matters to you, use the regular standby line instead.
6. Designate a Meeting Spot
Since riders are loaded based on open seats, your group will be split up and may exit at different times (although it’s usually only a few minutes). Pick a clear meeting spot to avoid headaches. My son and I always meet by the photos so we don’t block the exit.
